HYPE Learning Agreement

When you reach your school leaving age you may decide to:

  • Stay on at school
  • Go to college or university
  • Get a job
  • Apply for a training programme
  • Plan to set up your own business
  • Do some volunteering

What if there's nothing there for me?

You may be eligible for an HYPE Learning Agreement.

What is an HYPE Learning Agreement?

A HYPE Learning Agreement is a plan of learning and activity which an adviser will support you to construct, so that when you are ready you can progress from this to further education, training or employment. It can include volunteering, short courses, supported learning and practical work experience.

Financial support

You may be eligible to receive EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance) of £30 per week. Transport and other costs may also be paid.

Who is eligible?

Young people are eligible if they:

  • Have left school
  • Are unable to access other post school opportunities due to challenges such as prolonged absence from school or no qualifications.
  • Are aged between 16 - 26

Who is likely to need an HYPE Learning Agreement?

In West Lothian a HYPE Learning Agreement is for you if you need extra help to find work or further education or training e.g.:

  • If you have additional support needs
  • If you have truanted from school or were excluded
  • If you have been in care or had support from a Social Worker
  • If you are caring for someone else at home
  • If you have tried college or a job (and didn't manage to sustain it)
  • If you don't feel confident enough to take that next step
  • If you have other barriers that make life difficult.
