Ryan - Waste Services Work Placement

Ryan had been inactive for 18 months when he was referred to Declan Harrigan (MCMC Key Worker for Activity Agreements). After completing a customised Activity Agreement he was ready to move on and so was referred on to Rhona Steel (MCMC Key Worker for the Skills Training Programme).

He completed Link It and Stage 3 of the Skills Training Programme between January and December 2014. As part of the Skills Training Programme Ryan had a work placement at Waste Services within West Lothian Council where he received positive feedback form his supervisors.

He attended this placement four days per week and a training day one day per week where he covered; all aspects of employability skills with help from Rhona he moved on to Stage 4. He is now Self Employed and working with Kate Ashcroft (Youth Business Adviser).

Ryan said everything he has done has been a "confidence booster" and "meeting the people who have supported me has got me to where I am now", he also said "without the help I would still be stuck". Rhona said "I have been honoured to work with Ryan on his incredible journey and to see him progress so well; he has an amazing future ahead of him."

Ryan's motivation and determination is a huge part of his success as well as the support system provided by his two key workers, He is an inspiration to young people everywhere.
