Kickstart Summer School

Kickstart is a collaborative project with the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Napier University, Queen Margaret University and Scotland's Rural College and is funded by the local councils in East, Mid and West Lothian.

Kickstart is a week long summer school which is free to attend and is designed to provide a fun and useful taster of studying at university. Kickstart is open to all current S4 and S5 pupils studying in state school in West Lothian, Midlothian and East Lothian Councils. Each year, West Lothian Council funds around 50 places for its pupils. It takes place in the middle of July each year. Dates are published each year on the Edinburgh University website

During the week, subject workshops are offered from a wide variety of university courses, covering sciences, humanities, the arts and professional degrees. The aim is to give pupils as real an experience as possible (without the essays and exams!) and a deeper insight into some of the subject areas offered within Higher Education. By the end of the week, pupils will have gained insight into the many opportunities available through university study.

Applications for Kickstart 2016 open in March 2016. Information and application forms are sent to all schools in West Lothian.
