West Lothian Council Modern Apprenticeships

West Lothian Council Modern Apprenticeships (MAs) are for people who have left school and are aged between 16-19 years of age (although some of our trade apprenticeships are 16-24 years of age) and live in the West Lothian area.

They offer paid employment (earn while you learn), workplace or college learning and work experience to help you gain new skills and qualifications.

Applying to be a Modern Apprentice with West Lothian Council

You should always look carefully at the job application for the apprenticeship. It will you give the information you need to know such as:

  • the work you will be asked to do
  • the duration of the apprenticeship
  • what the salary is
  • what qualification you will study toward
  • where you will be based
  • what skills, abilities and knowledge you need to have to apply for one our apprenticeship opportunities

We offer a range of Modern Apprenticeships such as Procurement, Accountancy, Business Administration, Customer Service, Health and Social Care, Housing, I.T., Laboratory Technician, Architect, Hospitality, Surveyor, Trainee Building Standards Officer, Property Management, Horticulture, Human Resources and the Construction trades.

What happens when I am employed as a Modern Apprentice?

As an MA employed by us you will be on a fixed term contract. You will have the same terms and conditions as an existing member of staff and you will study for a Modern Apprenticeship at level 2,3 or 4.

Fixed term contracts are normally two years; however construction trades/mechanics/horticulture and road workers are between 2 and 4 years.
