Girl power wanted for trade apprenticeships
West Lothian Council is looking to encourage more young women to apply for construction trade apprenticeships.
The council currently has a handful of female trade apprentices but the group are still greatly underrepresented.
Building Services held workshops recently and invited along girls from Whitburn Academy and St. Kentigern's Academy.
The girls took part in workshops and information sessions with the aim of encouraging more girls to apply for apprenticeships in the trades.
The girls took part in various "have a go" workshops including;
- Plastering
- Electrical
- Joinery
- Painting
- Plumbing
- Bricklaying
They also visited a site so they could see they type of work council apprentices undertake.
Feedback from the girls shows that they enjoyed the day, found it useful and would consider a future in construction.
